E/R: Dangme youth threaten to protest during Krobo festivals over deplorable roads

The Dangme Youth for Development Association has issued a strong ultimatum to authorities, demanding the urgent rehabilitation of deteriorating roads in Kroboland by September 2025, or face mass protests during two of the area’s most celebrated cultural festivals.
The group has specifically targeted the upcoming Kloyosikplemi Festival in Somanya and the Ngmayem Festival in Krobo Odumase, warning that if no visible progress is made on the roads by then, they will stage protests during the festivities.
Speaking to Accra FM/CTV News reporter Apelete Kofi-Michel, the President of the Association, Simon Teye, voiced deep frustration over the state of infrastructure in the area.
He cited the long-abandoned Somanya-Krobo Odumase road project and the Oterkpolu bridge — constructed in 1923 and now in disrepair — as symbols of governmental neglect.
“We want to see the contractor back on site and continuing the road construction,” Teye stressed. “Our people cannot continue to suffer in silence while our roads remain in this deplorable state.”
He explained that the poor roads have made it difficult for residents to access essential services and have severely affected local commerce and transportation.
Drivers plying the Somanya-Krobo Odumase route also echoed the concerns, citing frequent vehicle breakdowns and costly maintenance due to the rough terrain.
Many said the road conditions had made daily commuting a nightmare and urged the government to act swiftly.
The youth group says their demand is clear: fix the roads by September 2025, or face civil action during the cultural celebrations.
Their planned protest, they emphasized, is not aimed at disrupting the festivals but at drawing urgent attention to their plight.
The Dangme Youth for Development Association is calling on relevant government agencies, traditional leaders, and stakeholders to intervene and prioritize the rehabilitation of the roads before the ultimatum expires.
