EC modernises payment systems, releases ₵69M
The Electoral Commission (EC), has embarked on a transformative journey to modernize its payment system for temporary workers, to enhance operational efficiency and ensure timely payments.
Announcing this in a statement, issued and signed by its Acting Director of Public Affairs, Michael Boadu, on Wednesday, 8 May 2024, the EC disclosed that it has disbursed a total of GHS69,164,842.11 to 116,211 temporary workers who served during the 2023 District Level Election (DLE).
The Commission further revealed its ongoing efforts to settle payments for an additional 47 officials, amounting to GHS24,263.16.
The Acting Director of Public Affairs at the EC, underscored the Commission's commitment to improving its hiring procedures for temporary staff through the adoption of digital data collection systems.
He elaborated on the benefits of this initiative, stating, “This initiative will enhance and improve the payment methods for all temporary Officials and prevent delays.
“Additionally, the digital system will help streamline administrative procedures, reduce paperwork and ensure the accuracy and security of data. This approach is a significant step towards optimising operational efficiency and resource management within the Commission.”
Assuring both current and future temporary employees, the EC emphasised that this modernization effort would lead to smoother administrative processes and eliminate payment delays.
With the implementation of these digital systems, the EC aims to strengthen its capacity to effectively manage electoral processes and uphold the integrity of democratic practices in Ghana.
