Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that the ministry has approved the issuance of a Ghanaian passport to global internet personality IShowSpeed, following confirmation of what he described as the streamer’s “irrefutable ties” to Ghana.

In a statement shared on Facebook, Mr Ablakwa addressed popular Ghanaian YouTuber and cultural advocate Wode Maya, crediting discussions with him and subsequent verification processes for the decision.

“Following our discussions and subsequent confirmation of the irrefutable ties of IShowSpeed to Ghana, I am pleased to inform you and our compatriots that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has approved the issuance of a Ghanaian Passport to IShowSpeed,” the minister stated.

The foreign affairs minister encouraged Wode Maya to continue projecting Ghana and Africa positively on the global stage, describing both personalities as worthy ambassadors of the nation and the continent.

“Keep making our great nation Ghana, and our beloved African continent proud,” he said.

Mr Ablakwa further noted that Ghana celebrates Wode Maya, recalling that the government had granted him a diplomatic passport last year in recognition of his contribution to promoting Ghana’s image internationally.

“Ghana celebrates you both — you remain our worthy ambassadors, and we are ever so delighted to have granted you a diplomatic passport last year,” he added.

The statement concluded with a patriotic message underscoring Ghana’s broader Pan-African outlook: “For God, Country & Continent.”

The announcement has generated widespread public interest, particularly following IShowSpeed’s recent visit to Ghana, during which he participated in cultural activities and livestreamed his experiences to millions of followers worldwide, further amplifying Ghana’s cultural and tourism appeal.

The digital star, who revealed his mother of Ghanaian descent, was given a traditional name that celebrates his day of birth and renowned valour; Barima Kofi Akuffo.
