The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has announced the arrest of 2,241 foreign nationals for engaging in street solicitation across various parts of Accra's Central Business District.

According to the GIS, the large-scale operation targeted 11 hotspot locations within the capital and was aimed at curbing the rising trend of street begging, particularly involving foreign nationals.

The arrested individuals include 384 adult males, 525 adult females, 577 male children, and 755 female children.

The operation was conducted as part of the Service’s broader efforts to enforce immigration laws, protect vulnerable individuals, especially minors, and restore order within the city’s commercial and public spaces.

Authorities say the arrests form part of a nationwide initiative to address issues of urban congestion, public safety, and potential human trafficking and child exploitation rings.

The GIS has assured the public that it will continue to collaborate with relevant agencies to ensure the law is upheld and that proper procedures are followed in processing the cases of those arrested
