The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has dismissed reports that the 2020 Census will not come off this year.

However, the original date of March 2020 will be moved forward by a couple of months.

“The Ghana Statistical Services (GSS), the institution responsible for its implementation, wishes to clarify that the census will be conducted this year (2020)”, it mentioned in a statement.

It added: “As the Government Statistician indicated during the release of the December 2019 Consumer Price Index and Inflation Rates on 8 January 2020, the census, which was originally scheduled for March 2020, is likely to be moved forward by a couple of months.”

This change in date, the GSS said, is being anticipated following observations from the completed field census mapping exercise, which has engendered the need to redesign technological interventions required for complete coverage, enhanced accuracy and timely release of the census results.

To this end, GSS urged its stakeholders, the media and the general public to maintain a positive engagement and participation in the preparation and implementation of the 2020 census activities, including sharing of the right information.

It added that the census date will soon be announced to the general public once approved by the National Census Steering Committee.
