The Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL) has voiced serious concerns over Parliament's failure to approve the first quarter budget for 2025, warning of potential repercussions for government operations, including the payment of salaries to public sector workers.

Parliament was recalled by Speaker Alban Bagbin on Monday, December 16, 2024, to address key matters, including tax exemptions and the approval of a mini-budget for the first fiscal quarter of 2025.

However, progress was stalled, reportedly due to the absence of Dr. Amin Adam, the Finance Minister, from proceedings leading to its failure to approve before adjourning.

Reacting to the impasse, GFL Secretary-General Abraham Koomson told the media in an interview that failure in approval of the mini-budget could disrupt vital government functions and inflict further hardship on workers.

He also warned that the failure would provoke the frustration of public sector workers, who have endured economic challenges under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration over the past eight years.
