Nana Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo, the visionary founder of the KAMA Group of Companies and a pioneering figure in Ghana’s pharmaceutical industry, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2024, at the age of 74.
Dr. Addo leaves behind a remarkable legacy as a trailblazing entrepreneur whose influence spanned multiple industries in Ghana.
Dr. Addo’s entrepreneurial journey began in 1983 with a single pharmaceutical shop in Kumasi.
By 1986, he was producing medical products from his garage, a humble start that led to the founding of the KAMA Group of Companies.
Over the years, KAMA expanded to include a vast network of wholesale and retail pharmaceutical outlets across Ghana, alongside ventures in micro-finance, real estate, and a multi-purpose conference centre, solidifying Dr. Addo’s place as a prominent leader in Ghanaian business.
Committed to education and youth empowerment, Dr. Addo established the Kama Education Project, an initiative focused on training teachers to cultivate entrepreneurial skills in students.

In recognition of his contributions to business and society, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) awarded Dr. Addo an honorary doctorate in 2005.
Undeterred in his pursuit of knowledge, he continued his studies and was among the 88 PhD graduates from the University of Ghana in 2022.
