Central Assemblies of God Church on fire

Fire has razed the Central Assemblies of God Church at Ho in the Volta Region.

Two firefighters who were helping to douse the flames were also injured in the process.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, 1 April 2020 while some youth of the church were streaming a service live on Facebook.

According to the youth, they could smell smoke but were unsure of what it was when the fire began at about 7 pm.

They were, however, cautioned by the security guard on duty to exit the church premises before it escalated.

The fire, which also destroyed some offices attached to the church, completely razed the building.

Deputy Volta Regional Fire Commander, Prince Billy Anaglate, explaining the incident to journalists, said: “When we got here, we realised that the whole premises was engulfed with the fire, spreading to other areas, and if you look at the velocity of the wind, the fire was spreading very fast but when we got here, we were able to stop the fire from the point of spread, then we called for assistance and we have Kpetoe fire station here, and we have Adaklu fire station, so, three fire station engines were here to battle this fire.”

He also added: “Unfortunately, two of our firefighters got injured, the ambulance just sent them to the hospital, we believe, from here, some of us will follow up to see them... They were inside fighting when the roof caved in on them."

For his part, Head Pastor of the Church, Godson Bodza, stated: “The Church of God will bounce back with a super magnificent structure to the glory of God.”
