Lordina Mahama hosts visiting African First Ladies in Accra
First Lady of the Republic of Ghana, Mrs. Lordina Mahama, on Tuesday welcomed to her office Her Excellency Kartumu Yarta Boakai, First Lady of Liberia, who arrived in Accra ahead of a high-level continental meeting on maternal and child health.
Mrs. Boakai is in Ghana for a side event involving African First Ladies on ending mother-to-child transmission and promoting the triple elimination of HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B across the continent.
The meeting forms part of the 23rd International Conference on AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections in Africa (ICASA) currently underway in Accra.
On Wednesday, Ghana also received several other dignitaries participating in the event, including the President of the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) and First Lady of Sierra Leone, Her Excellency Dr. Fatima Maada Bio.
She arrived alongside Her Excellency Fatoumatta Bah Barrow, First Lady of The Gambia; Her Excellency Rachel Ruto, First Lady of Kenya; and former First Lady of South Africa, H.E. Tobeka Madiba-Zuma.
Mrs. Mahama expressed her commitment to working with African First Ladies and global partners to advance the health and well-being of women and children, particularly in preventing mother-to-child transmission of infectious diseases.
