MP pays late-night visit to flood-hit areas in Weija-Gbawe

Mr Jerry Ahmed Shaib, Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, has embarked on a late-night inspection tour of flood-affected communities within the constituency following a heavy downpour that left parts of the area submerged.
The visit was aimed at assessing the extent of the damage, engaging directly with affected residents, and identifying urgent measures to address their immediate needs.
Residents shared their concerns and frustrations, particularly over the recurring nature of the flooding and the lack of permanent drainage solutions.
Describing the situation as deeply concerning, Mr Shaib made a passionate appeal to the Minister for Works and Housing to expedite the long-delayed construction of the storm drain along the Accra-Kasoa Highway.
He emphasised that the project is a critical intervention required to reduce the frequency and severity of flooding in the area.
In addition, he called on the Ministry of Roads and Highways to urgently install streetlights along major roads within the constituency, especially on the Accra-Kasoa stretch.
He noted that poor visibility during rainfall and at night poses a significant risk to motorists and pedestrians, increasing the likelihood of accidents.
“These interventions are not just infrastructural—they are lifesaving.
We cannot continue to watch lives and property destroyed every time it rains,” Mr. Shaib stated.
The lawmaker assured residents that he will continue to push for the necessary government support and policy attention to ensure long-term solutions are implemented.
