NE/R: Bawumia to commission factory, mosque in Walewale on Nov. 22

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia will on Friday, November 22, 2024, commission two projects in Walewale, North East Region.

They are: Walewale Watermelon Factory and a worship centre for Islamic devotees.

In 2019, Dr Bawumia originally cut the sod for the factory's construction.

The Walewale Watermelon Factory is part of the government’s One District One Factory programme. The factory is a subsidiary of a Ghanaian-owned company, Champion Foods and Beverages Limited.

Daily, upon optimal operation, the factory is expected to produce approximately 10 metric tonnes of watermelon and various juice beverages.

The factory will provide various forms of employment for the people the watermelon-producing town, and aid efforts in controlling post-harvest waste.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer will also commission the brand new Walewale Central Mosque.

The construction of the mosque was facilitated by Dr Bawumia.

The facility which has gender-specific worship chambers, and offices, brings relief to town with a growing number of worshippers.

The commissioning of the Walewale Central Mosque will hold extra significance happening on the occasion of Friday Jummah prayers in the afternoon, with traditional rulers, imams, and worshippers from the local and surrounding communities present.
