The National Service Scheme (NSS) has unveiled a new six-month volunteer recruitment initiative aimed at addressing the critical issue of youth unemployment in the country.
This programme is specifically designed for National Service graduates and unemployed youth, providing them with valuable opportunities to gain work experience and develop essential skills.
Announcing the programme in Accra on Thursday, 18 July 2024, the NSS highlighted the focus areas of the recruitment drive.
“The recruitment will focus on various models including sanitation, teaching, agriculture, health, and other sectors aligned with the Government’s efforts to promote environmental health, cleanliness, and sustainable development,” the statement said.
The initiative responds to a significant number of applications from young people seeking employment opportunities. By offering these volunteer positions, the NSS aims to equip participants with practical experience that can enhance their employability.
To facilitate the selection process, the NSS will soon introduce an online application system on its website. The scheme called on community leaders and stakeholders to help disseminate information about the program.
"We encourage you to spread awareness about this opportunity among potential candidates in your region/district and provide necessary guidance and support throughout the application process," the NSS urged.
