General News
Public Accounts Committee

The Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) James Klutse-Avedzi, has cautioned schools and Assemblies to comply with the Public Procurement Act 2003, Act 663 as amended in the disposal of obsolete equipment and vehicles.

It was revealed at the Committee’s public hearing in Ho in the Volta Region that currently the Assemblies writes letters to seek approval from the Office of the Chief of Staff while the schools have to make request through the Ghana Education Service (GES) to the Office of the Chief of Staff before auctions can take place.

Most Schools, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) have resulted in disposing obsolete equipment and vehicles without following the due process. This the Committee noted that it amounts to non-compliance of the law and cautioned them to desist from such future practices.

The Committee is expected to continue its Zone 4 Public Hearing in Takoradi, Western Region next week Monday 13th May 2024.
