President Mahama recalls all diplomatic and service passports
President John Dramani Mahama has instructed the Chief Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration to recall all diplomatic and service passports issued under the previous administration.
In a statement signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama, said the directive was part of the government’s efforts to ensure the proper use and administration of official travel documents in line with national and international standards.
The statement explained that the recall is aimed at preventing the misuse of diplomatic and service passports, safeguarding Ghana’s reputation, and maintaining the integrity of its diplomatic engagements.
To facilitate this process, President Mahama directed the Chief Director to issue a public notice informing all holders of such passports from the previous administration to return them to the Ministry for verification.
Passports deemed necessary will be reissued following proper checks.
The Ministry has been tasked with setting a firm deadline for compliance.
All concerned individuals are required to return their diplomatic and service passports by January 24, 2025, as part of the verification and re-issuance process.
The government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring accountability and adherence to international best practices in managing official travel documents.
