Priotise girl-child education – Banda DCE to parents
The District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Banda Constituency, Ms Mary Konneh, has urged parents to prioritise the education of the girl-child.
The DCE was speaking at a durbar to end the annual Moo Gbornor festival at Adadiem, a farming community in the Jaman North District in the Bono Region.
She emphasised the need for parents to educate the girl-child to enable women contribute to the development of the nation.
The DCE said: “Send the girl-child to school so that one day, they can become DCEs like me. I say it to the glory of God that women who are DCEs or MMDCEs in Ghana do very well in our positions compared to our male counterparts. Could we have achieved that if we had not gone to school?”
“If my parents were alive and were present here today, wouldn’t they be proud of me? Why don’t we give the girl child the opportunity to go to school?”
She also advised the youth to be weary of politicians who lure them into engaging in activities that create tension during elections.
“Follow parties that will ensure your growth and development, not the ones that will incite you to violence.
“I’ll plead with the young men here, if any politician comes to you to urge to go and engage in violence, tell them to let their children begin it, or their nephews”.
“I’m plead with you, we don’t have to engage in violence,” Ms Konneh added.
