Prosecutor to amend Owusu Bempah charges
The prosecutor in charge of the case involving Rev Isaac Owusu Bempah has asked the Accra High Court for a one-week extension to amend his charges.
In court on Monday, 20 September 2021, Chief Inspector Dennis Terkpetey pleaded with the court to adjourn the case for that purpose.
This was after the lawyers for the accused persons, led by Mr Gary Nimako Marfo, had earlier prayed the court to adjourn the case to October 25.
The court, presided over by Her Honour Afia Owusua Appiah, said October 25 was too long for the prosecutor to amend the charges and, therefore, reached an agreement with the prosecutor and the defendants to adjourn the case to 5 October 2021.
Rev Owusu Bempah and three others were arrested last week during church service when a video recording of his gun-toting pastors threatening to kill Nana Agradaa went viral.
According to the police, when they went to his church to effect the arrest, Owusu Bempah’s junior pastors and some congregants assaulted some police officers who had to seek medical attention at the hospital.
The suspects have been charged with offensive conduct conducive to breaching the peace, as well as threat of death and assault of public officers.
