A delegation from the Queen Mothers’ Platform, a network of queen mothers in Ghana, has paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, at his office in Accra.

Members of the delegation, led by Nana Amposah Dokua III of the Osudoku Traditional Area, during their interaction with the minister, proposed a partnership with the ministry to help curb the spread of COVID-19 in their communities.

This is part of a six-point proposal presented to the ministry for consideration.  

Nana Ama Yirrah, Organising Secretary and spokeswoman of the association, said their requests, among other things, were for the government to recognise the association as a key stakeholder in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and establish direct working relations with the ministry.

The association, according to the Organising Secretary, also wants representation on district health committees, logistic support to create public awareness, and for the ministry to consider a proposal from the association on the role of queen mothers in the prevention and management of stigmatisation of COVID-19 patients at the community level.

Mr Agyeman-Manu underlined the need for a scaling up of efforts to engage more stakeholders on how to handle the spread of the virus, especially with regard to public education on the disease and community engagements.  

He assured the queen mothers that he will review the proposal submitted to his office and give them feedback.

Queen Mothers’ Platform is a network of gazetted queen mothers in Ghana seeking to unite all queen mothers in Ghana to build their capacities for social and economic development and to promote the affairs of women and children in their communities.
