Scores of Kumasi residents demonstrate over dumsor

Ashanti Region dumsor demo held on Wednesday

Hundreds of Kumasi residents in the Ashanti Region took to the streets on Wednesday evening in a peaceful demonstration to protest against frequent power outages plaguing the region just after President Nana Akufo-Addo inaugurated the Kumasi 1 Thermal Power Plant.

Marching through the city's thoroughfares, the demonstrators, clad in red and black attire, held up placards conveying their frustration with the prolonged blackouts.

Some participants illuminated the procession with lanterns and candles, symbolizing the darkness caused by the ongoing power cuts.

Among the protesters were traders voicing concerns about the adverse effects of the erratic power supply, locally termed 'dumsor,' on their businesses.

The demonstration coincided with the commissioning of the Kumasi 1 Thermal Power Plant (K1TPP) by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at Anwomaso in the Ashanti region.

The newly inaugurated plant is anticipated to bolster power supply in both the middle and northern sectors of the country.
