UE/R: Police launch manhunt for tricycle rider who assaulted officer in Garu

The Upper East Regional Police Command has launched a manhunt for a commercial tricycle rider who allegedly assaulted a police officer during a routine operation in Garu on Monday, October 6, 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Regional Public Affairs Department and signed by Chief Inspector Abdul-Rahman Sumalia, the incident occurred along the Garu–Nakpanduri road when police officers and Community Protection Assistants (CPAs) were conducting stop-and-search operations.
The police said the team intercepted a tricycle carrying sacks of groundnuts with several passengers seated on top.
When the officer on duty instructed the rider to stop and park properly for inspection, the suspect reportedly became aggressive and physically attacked the officer.
The rider then fled the scene on his tricycle, evading arrest.
The police have since initiated efforts to track him down.
“The Command has commenced investigations into the incident, and efforts are underway to arrest the tricycle rider and ensure he faces the full rigours of the law,” the statement added.
The Ghana Police Service has urged members of the public, particularly residents of Garu and surrounding communities, to provide any information that may assist in locating the suspect.
The police further reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order while ensuring the safety of both officers and civilians during lawful operations.
