Volta Region water crisis: Lecturer urges urgent action from GWCL

Dr. Richard Akplotsyi, a Senior Lecturer in Built and Natural Environment at Ho Technical University, has called on the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) to treat the ongoing water crisis in the Volta Region, particularly in Ho,, the capital of the Volta Region and its surrounding communities, as a national security threat and address it with urgency.

Speaking to Class News, Dr. Akplotsyi criticised the management of GWCL, stating that their complacency had contributed to the current situation, which he described as avoidable.

“This is the fourth time in just one month that the Kpeve Headworks water pump shaft has broken down.

The management has been too relaxed, leading to this unforeseen crisis, and they must take immediate action,” he stressed.

The repeated breakdowns have left residents struggling to find water, with many resorting to unhygienic sources for their daily needs.

The latest breakdown has persisted for over a week, leaving customers without water.

Dr. Akplotsyi is therefore urging GWCL’s management to take urgent and concrete steps to fix the problem and ensure a sustainable water supply for affected communities.
