Agenda 111: Akufo-Addo to commission new hospitals today
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is today, Thursday, 5 December 2024, inaugurating key hospital projects under the landmark Agenda 111 initiative.
This transformative programme is designed to expand Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure and improve access to quality medical services across the nation.
The facilities being commissioned include the Atwima Kwanwoma Municipal Hospital at Trede and the Oforikrom Municipal Hospital, both situated in the Ashanti Region.
These hospitals are part of an ambitious plan to construct 111 district and specialised hospitals nationwide, forming a critical element of the president’s strategy to bolster healthcare delivery.
Presidential Advisor on Health, Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare, elaborated on the advanced capabilities of the new facilities, describing them as fully equipped to meet diverse healthcare needs.
“We have a 100-bed hospital complete with an accident and emergency centre, neonatal and paediatric units, a maternity wing, a kitchen, a mortuary, an OPD, a pharmacy, X-ray facilities, and a laboratory. It is a comprehensive healthcare facility,” Dr Nsiah-Asare explained.
He also highlighted the inclusion of specialised departments such as eye care, dental care, ENT (ear, nose, and throat), public health units, and consulting rooms, which ensure the hospitals can provide a wide array of medical services.
The Agenda 111 initiative aims to address the gaps in Ghana’s healthcare system, reduce patient overcrowding, and enhance health outcomes, particularly in underserved communities.
