Member of Parliament (MP) for Agotime Ziope, Charles Agbeve, has commissioned two high-yield mechanized boreholes for residents of Kpetoe in the Bedze Agbome and Adina communities, aimed at easing the persistent water shortages confronting the area.

The projects were undertaken in collaboration with the Agotime Easter Homecoming Committee as part of efforts to support community development beyond social festivities.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Mr. Agbeve explained that the initiative was born out of an Easter homecoming programme, which traditionally focuses on reunion, entertainment and commercial activities. However, this time, the youth and organisers opted to initiate a fundraising drive to address the critical gap in water supply affecting Kpetoe and its environs, a decision he described as “proper and prudent” and worthy of full support.

The MP highlighted that although Kpetoe has a waterworks system, it was originally designed to serve only the old township. With the town now serving as a district capital, demand has far outstripped supply. According to him, the current waterworks can supply only about 243 cubic metres of water, while demand has risen to approximately 5,000 cubic metres, resulting in severe rationing that can see some communities wait up to 20 days before water flows again.

To help bridge this gap, Mr. Agbeve said the homecoming committee constructed one borehole, while he personally initiated and fully financed the second. He emphasized that although the two boreholes are not a permanent solution, they will significantly alleviate the water crisis while residents await the expansion of the existing waterworks and the implementation of a long-term solution to convey water from Adidome through Waya in Adaklu.

He further noted that the long-term water supply project would not require laying new pipelines, as they are already in place. What remains, he said, is for government to procure a booster pump and overhead tanks to allow water to flow by gravity into homes. He called on the relevant authorities to support the initiative to ensure sustainable water supply for the growing population.

Mr Agbeve also announced interventions at the Kpetoe Health Centre, noting that the district hospital under the Agenda 111 project is only about 10 percent complete. He revealed that before the end of the month, he would donate a brand-new ultrasound machine with a printer to the health centre to ease referrals for expectant mothers. Additionally, he said he is procuring basic eye-care equipment for the facility’s eye clinic to enhance diagnosis and treatment of eye conditions among residents.
