The Rebecca Foundation, in collaboration with Roche and The Ghana Health Service, has trained 30 health staff in Akim Oda in the Birim Central District to build their capacity to screen women for breast and cervical cancers and treat early-stage cervical cancer.

The participants, who were chosen from across the district, were taken through theoretical and practical training on how to conduct outreach activities, effectively screen for both breast and cervical cancers, and treat cervical cancer using the Thermal coagulation machine purchased for the project.

A total of 118 women were screened during the training, with eight testing positive for cervical cancer.

Six were treated on the spot with the thermal coagulation machine, while two women were referred to Eastern Regional Hospital, Koforidua, for further breast examination.

First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo described the training as fruitful and encouraged all women to periodically check their cervix and breasts, as early detection saves lives.
