Health News
Polio can only be prevented through immunisation

The Ashanti region has recorded eight cases of polio infections.

The Circulating Vaccine Derived Poliovirus Type 2 (cVDPV2) were recorded in six districts this year.

The last time Ghana recorded a polio infection outbreak was in 2008.

Addressing the media today, Wednesday, 9 September 2020, the Regional Deputy Health Director in Charge of Public Health, Dr Yaw Ofori Yeboah, said the directorate, from Thursday, 10 September 2020, will commence a massive polio immunisation exercise in all the 43 districts of the region.

The immunisation exercise, which has targeted 1,184,860 children below 5 years, he said, will end on September 13, 2020.

Dr Yeboah said they have mobilised 2,714 teams to support the programme in the region and will be supervised by 452 senior officers.
