The Bono Regional Women Organizers of the governing  National Democratic Congress (NDC) are calling on President John Dramani Mahama to take immediate action in appointing Hajia Fatimatu Abubakari as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Berekum East.

The group expressed their concerns during a press conference held at the Berekum East Zongo Caucus office.

The twelve Constituency Women Organizers from the Bono Region emphasized Hajia Fatima’s unwavering loyalty, sacrifices, and significant contributions to the growth of the NDC in the region.

They highlighted her pivotal role in helping the party secure 11 out of the 12 parliamentary seats in the area, asserting that her continuous sidelining in the MCE appointment process could demoralize the party’s base, particularly the women.

They noted that Hajia Fatimatu’s hard work and dedication led to the NDC capturing the Berekum East seat, which had remained elusive since the tenure of Mr Owusu Acheampong.

Despite being in opposition, Hajia Fatimatu rose to become the Presiding Member of the Assembly, earning the respect of people from various political backgrounds.

Salamatu Adams, Acting Women's Organizer of the Concerned Assembly Members of Ghana (CAMG), also questioned why women organizers from other regions have been appointed to significant positions, while Hajia Fati’s modest request to serve as MCE has faced undue resistance.

The Bono NDC women also raised concerns about attempts to impose a candidate with close ties to the former NPP MP for Sunyani West, cautioning that such a move could jeopardize the party’s stability and control over Berekum East.

The women appealed to President Mahama, Vice President, and the First Lady to demonstrate their commitment to women’s empowerment, emphasizing that the party’s promises to uplift women should not be reduced to mere campaign rhetoric.
