COVID-19: Ghana to begin administering booster shots – Agyeman-Manu
Ghana will soon begin administering COVID-19 booster shots to some selected members of the public.
The booster doses will be given in accordance with the proposal made by the National Immunisation Technical Advisory Group (NITAG).
Speaking at a press conference held in Accra on Wednesday, 19 January 2022, Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu noted that the recommendations for the booster shots by NITAG has been endorsed.
“As the initial COVID-19 vaccine diplomacy strategy, NITAG proposed that the under-listed segmented population should have boosters; health care workers, persons with underlying medical conditions, persons 60 years and above, frontline security personnel, members of the executive, judiciary and legislator.”
He disclosed that the immunisation will take place at designated places to ensure that an equitable number of Ghanaians are vaccinated.
“…On the issue of vaccine mandate, we’ll be focusing on some selected persons and venues while we get a reasonable number of Ghanaians vaccinated. And in view of this, we are planning to have national COVID-19 vaccination days to boost the coverage among the general population,” the Health Minister stated.
