The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has rescinded its decision to allow its health facilitity to treat only Very Important Personalities (VIPs) who may contract COVID-19.

The BoG in a statement said it has reached an agreement with the Ministry of Health to avail part of the facility to assist in the treatment of severe and critical case of COVID-19 and that "this arrangement will be available for the benefit of the general public".

Earlier, the Minister of Health Kweku Agyeman-Manu at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, 1 April 2020 had said the hospital in Accra will be used as a treatment centre for VIPs who may contract COVID-19.

“I kept on telling people that the Ministry of Health does not have direct jurisdiction over the Bank of Ghana Hospital. We have had engagements with the Bank of Ghana and they have released two floors [of the BoG Hospital] to take care of 20 beds for our use because the facility does not belong to the Ministry of Health. The Bank of Ghana has agreed that their own people and some VIP personnel will be allowed there,” he said.

Meanwhile, as of 1 April 2020, Ghana had recorded 195 COVID-19 cases with five deaths.
