COVID-19 upsurge among staff forces Savelugu hospital shutdown

Health News
The Savelugu Hospital in the Northern Region has been closed down

The Savelugu Hospital in the Northern Region has been closed down temporarily for two weeks.

This follows a rise in COVID-19 cases at the health post and the Savelugu municipality.

In a statement issued by the Public Relations Unit of the hospital, the authorities noted that the facility “shall render only emergency services.”

According to the authorities, the decision has become necessary in order “to reduce staff-client interaction and pave the way for disinfection of the entire Hospital to break the chain of transmission.”

Sixty health workers at the facility have tested positive for the virus.

Results of samples of some staff are also yet to be released.

The authorities of the hospital urged residents of the area not to panic and cooperate with the hospital as it works towards providing them quality health care services while ensuring safety.

Currently, there are 168 active COVID-19 cases in the Region.

So far, Ghana has recorded 6,658 active cases of the virus and 577 deaths.
