More than 700 residents of Begoro in the Fanteakwa North District of the Eastern Region have benefited from a comprehensive free medical screening exercise organised by the Begorohene, Daasebre Mireku Afari II, who also serves as the Okyeman Benkumhene.

The health outreach, held at the Begoro Event Centre, provided a range of medical services including blood pressure checks, malaria and diabetes testing, and general health consultations.

The primary beneficiaries were elderly residents, women, and children—groups considered most vulnerable in the community.

In addition to the screenings, participants received vital health education on kidney health, mental wellbeing, fertility, maternal care, and the importance of managing blood pressure.

Residents were also sensitised on reproductive and psychological health issues.

The Fanteakwa North Health Director, Madam Berikiso Mensah, commended the initiative, noting that the high turnout demonstrated the pressing health needs in the area.

She identified common health conditions in the community, such as hypertension, heart failure, menstrual disorders, infertility, and visual impairments.

She praised the Begorohene’s efforts in reaching out to underserved residents and emphasised the importance of the outreach, given the burden on the district’s only government health facility.

Madam Mensah revealed that the exercise was designed to promote health awareness and empower residents to take charge of their well-being.

Free medication was provided to patients diagnosed with certain conditions, while prescriptions were given for medications not readily available on-site.

As part of the initiative, residents were also registered for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) at no cost, ensuring continued access to basic healthcare services.

Madam Mensah concluded by encouraging Ghanaians to make regular health check-ups a personal priority, expressing concern over the widespread neglect of preventive healthcare.

Representing the Begorohene at the event, Nana Baffour Awuradu Agyarko Mintah II reiterated the chief’s commitment to the welfare of Begoro residents and stressed that the screening was aimed at improving community health and supporting the vulnerable.
