GA/R: Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign launched in La-Dade Kotopon Municipality
The La-Dade Kotopon Municipal Health Directorate has launched a breast cancer awareness campaign aimed at educating the public about the importance of early detection and treatment.
The campaign, which was launched, includes a walk through the community, screening, and education on breast cancer.
According to Dr. Karen Najuman Prempeh, the Acting Municipal Director for La-Dade Kotopon Municipal Health Directorate, the campaign is designed to reinforce existing awareness about breast cancer and to encourage people to get screened.
"We want to let every single person, every single woman, every single man in the community know that breast cancer is still around, and that screening is available at the polyclinic and other health facilities," she said.
Dr. Prempeh emphasised the importance of early detection and treatment of breast cancer.
"Don't wait for it to get to the advanced stage where the prognosis is bad," she advised.
"Come to us, we are very nice people. We will welcome you and listen to your story, and provide every help that we have for you."
The campaign is part of the municipality's efforts to engage with the community and provide education on breast cancer.
The health directorate has been creating awareness about breast cancer for years, but this year, they decided to take a different approach by going into the community to reach out to people.
Dr. Prempeh paid tribute to the former First Lady, who passed away yesterday.
"Yesterday's blow was to every woman in Ghana," she said.
"We already know how much impact she's had in Ghana and on women, so it was a big blow to us." Dr. Prempeh called on young women to take up the mantle and continue the work that the former First Lady did.
The campaign aims to increase awareness and encourage people to get screened for breast cancer.
The health directorate has reported a significant increase in attendance at the polyclinic and other health facilities for breast cancer screening.
