Ghana Medical Trust Fund engages Kumasi Mayor on NCD support initiative

The Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (popularly known as Mahama Cares), Madam Obuobia Darko Opoku, has paid a courtesy call on the Mayor of Kumasi, Mr. Kwasi Ofori Agyemang Boadi, to introduce the Fund’s mandate and explore partnerships in the fight against Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).
The visit formed part of her working tour of the Ashanti Region, which also included engagements at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and the Kumasi South Regional Hospital.
Madam Darko Opoku highlighted the Fund’s role as a national health initiative dedicated to supporting patients suffering from NCDs.
She stressed the need for strong collaboration with health institutions and local authorities to ensure that the Fund becomes a responsive support system that strengthens healthcare delivery across Ghana.
The Kumasi Mayor welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and life-saving.
“This project is one that is dear to my heart because I have personally encountered critical situations where I had to step in and pay for treatment to continue for people,” he said.
He added that the Fund “would save many from the heavy financial burden of care.”
Both parties pledged to work closely to ensure that every Ghanaian battling NCDs has access to quality healthcare, in line with the Fund’s vision of easing the burden of treatment and advancing equitable health support nationwide.
