HIV/AIDS: Educate youth on transmission modes – MCE
The Municipal Chief Executive of the Sunyani West Municipal Assembly in the Bono Region, Mr Evans Kusi Boadum, has reminded Ghanaians of the urgent need to tackle the underlying social wrongs that hamper the goal of ending HIV/AIDS by 2030.
He noted that tackling inequalities will advance the human rights of vulnerable populations and people who are living with HIV, make societies better-prepared to manage COVID-19 and other pandemics, and support economic recovery and stability.
Mr Boadum urged the authorities to step up awareness on AIDS and HIV and educate the masses about the modes of transmission as well as modes of prevention.
He also said more must be done to promote the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
Mr Boadum pledged his quota to the creation of the necessary awareness on HIV/AIDS and educate the masses on the modes of transmission as well as modes of prevention.
He said this when he joined the 'Krontihene' of Fiapre, Nana Donyina Kusi II and his entourage as well as students from the Sunyani Senior High School and Odomaseman Senior High School, staff of Sunyani West Municipal Assembly, some Regional and Municipal Health Officers, non-governmental organisations, constituency executives of the NPP, some Assembly members and the people of Fiapre to celebrate World AIDS Day on Wednesday, 1 December 2021.
World AIDS Day is a day set aside by UNAIDS to highlight the devastating effects and the challenges of HIV/AIDS.
This year, 2021, the day was commemorated on the theme: "End inequalities, end AIDS, end pandemics".
