Health Minister receives report on Zipline Medical Drone Service
The Minister of Health, Mr. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has received a comprehensive assessment report on the performance, value, and sustainability of Zipline’s medical drone delivery service in Ghana.
The report was compiled by the Zipline Technical Task Force, which the Minister commissioned following growing public concerns and the recent closure of three Zipline distribution centres.
Opening the review session, Mr. Akandoh said the meeting was intended to establish a clear, shared understanding among all stakeholders regarding Zipline’s operations, costs, and contractual obligations.
He noted that although the service was initially presented as one to be funded by Corporate Ghana, the final contract required the government to pay US$88,000 per centre monthly for 24-hour operations.
The Task Force’s presentation examined several key areas, including operational effectiveness, value for money, procurement integrity, contract sustainability, and global alternative models for medical logistics.
The team further analysed health indicators before and during Zipline’s deployment to determine the system’s impact and long-term viability.
Mr. Akandoh assured that the Ministry will thoroughly review the findings and make recommendations, and continue engaging Zipline and other partners as it works toward building a more efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective medical supply chain for the country.
