NHIA takes health insurance outreach to Kasseh market, extends registration exercise
The Greater Accra Regional Office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), in collaboration with the Dangme East District Office, has concluded a three-day outreach programme at Kasseh Market aimed at educating residents and providing access to National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) services.
The exercise, which took place from May 26 to 28, 2026, formed part of mop-up activities following the nationwide free NHIS registration and renewal campaign held between April 15 and May 31, 2026.
With support from the NHIA Head Office and the Membership and Regional Operations (MRO) Directorate, a dedicated team engaged traders, shoppers, and other residents through direct interactions at the bustling market, providing information on health insurance benefits and registration procedures.
Participants were educated on the government's flagship Free Primary Health Care policy, NHIS benefit packages, and the use of digital platforms such as *929# and the MyNHIS mobile application for registration and membership renewal.
The outreach attracted considerable interest from market users, with many traders taking advantage of the exercise to ask questions, renew their memberships, and register for the scheme.
The programme was led by the Regional Operations Manager, highlighting the Authority’s commitment to expanding access to healthcare and ensuring that more Ghanaians are enrolled onto the NHIS.
The initiative also received support from key community stakeholders, including the Ghana Health Service, Ghana Education Service, the Kasseh Market leadership, and Assembly Members for the Kasseh and Bedeku electoral areas.
Despite challenges posed by heavy rainfall, which affected turnout and slowed activities, the NHIA extended the exercise to the Kasseh Lorry Station on May 30, 2026, to give residents who were unable to participate during the market outreach another opportunity to benefit from the fee waiver period.
Officials say the outreach forms part of ongoing efforts to increase NHIS coverage and promote public awareness of available healthcare services and digital access channels.
