President Mahama inaugurates committee to oversee integration of UG Medical School

President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated a Transitional Management Committee to oversee the full integration of the University of Ghana Medical School into the broader structure of the University of Ghana.
The inauguration ceremony took place earlier today at the Jubilee House in Accra.
Describing the move as a transformative step in Ghana’s healthcare development, President Mahama emphasised that the transition was far more than an administrative reshuffle.
He hailed it as a landmark moment that could redefine medical education and healthcare delivery in the country.
Unveiling his broader vision, the President announced plans for what he called the “University of Ghana Medical Village”—a futuristic hub designed to foster global health partnerships, facilitate advanced medical training, and serve as a centre for regional medical referrals.
“This is not just an integration exercise—it is a mission to build the future of healthcare in Ghana,” President Mahama stated.
“I urge all stakeholders to see this as a nation-building assignment, not a routine bureaucratic task.”
He assured the newly inaugurated Transitional Management Committee of the full backing of the government, the University of Ghana, and the Ghanaian public.
He called for transparency, unity, and a shared commitment to ensure the transition is successful and sustainable.
The formation of the committee is expected to streamline institutional coordination, align governance structures, and pave the way for the realisation of the Medical Village vision, positioning Ghana as a leader in health education and service delivery in the sub-region.
