US gifts Ghana 1.3m more doses of Pfizer vaccine
The government of the United States of American has shipped another consignment of COVID-19 vaccines to Ghana to shore up the West African country’s vaccination drive against the pandemic.
The US Embassy in Ghana wrote on Facebook: “The pandemic is not over until it’s defeated everywhere”.
The Embassy said: “Earlier today [Friday, 8 October 2021], 1.3 million doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine arrived in Ghana”.
“The U.S. has now donated more than 2.5 million vaccine doses to the people of Ghana and 176 million worldwide”.
So far, Ghana a total of 2,025,183 vaccine doses have been administered in Ghana against the pandemic, according to the latest figures from the Health Service.
Of that figure, 1,369,515 constitute the first dose of AstraZeneca, Sputnik V, Johnson & Johnson and Moderna vaccines.
Also, 1,190,564 constitute the first dose of AstraZeneca and Sputnik V vaccines.
Additionally, 7,291 doses of Moderna have been administered as the first dose.
Out of the total figure, 662,959 comprise the second dose of AstraZeneca and Sputnik V.
So far, the total number of people who have been fully vaccinated is 820,037 for all the vaccines.
