WHO donates medical supplies to boost Ghana’s Mpox response

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has donated essential medical supplies and public health materials worth $36,700 to the Ministry of Health to support Ghana’s ongoing efforts in combating the Mpox outbreak.
The donation comprises Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) for frontline health workers, 780 GeneXpert cartridges to enhance diagnostic capabilities, and 9,000 risk communication posters, along with 40 pull-up banners, aimed at raising public awareness and promoting community engagement.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, WHO Regional Director for Africa, Prof Mohamed Yakub Janabi, reiterated the organisation’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s public health response.
He commended the government for its proactive leadership in managing the outbreak.
Minister of Health, Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, expressed appreciation for the WHO’s continued support.
He encouraged the public to practise good hygiene and seek immediate medical care if symptoms of Mpox appear.
He also appealed for international support to secure vaccines as part of the broader response strategy.
The donated items are expected to strengthen infection prevention and control, enable faster diagnosis, and support effective risk communication to drive behavioural change.
The Ministry of Health reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening public health systems and working with stakeholders to contain the outbreak and safeguard the health of Ghanaians.
