We’ve not received a pesewa as allawa since July 2022 | Pay us – Angry RNMA to gov’t
The Rotational Nurses and Midwives Association (RNMA) has expressed its sadness at the demise of one of its members Paul Dodzi.
The deceased Rotational Nurse is reported to have allegedly taken his own life at Asankragua in the Western Region.
In a statement issued on Sunday, 14 May 2023 co-signed by its National President, Jasper Dzorkah and its General Secretary John Domechille, the RNMA explained that, the deceased “completed Bawku Presbyterian Nursing and Midwifery and was posted to the church of God hospital in Esieninpong in the Ejisu Municipality in the Ashanti Region of Ghana to do his rotation.”
It noted that information available revealed the deceased “lost both parents in his second year of his nursing training college. His colleagues during college added, they used to contribute and pay some of his fees and buy handouts for him.”
The association further revealed that prior to his death, the deceased had often “lamented” over the unpaid allowances of members of the association and how life was “tough” for him which had a psychological toll on him leading to the taking of his own life on Thursday, 11 May 2023, in an “uncompleted building.”
The leadership of the RNMA is, therefore, demanding that the Ministry of Finance release its “Financial clearance” to the Ministry of Health to start to begin the payment of their allowances as soon as possible.
“The situation has left us frustrated, as many affected persons struggle to commute to work and make ends meet.”
According to the association, its members are yet to receive a “pesewa” as allowances since they began serving in July 2022, after being deployed by the National Service Secretariat (NSS) in June 2022.
It called on government to come out with a “communique that will be word-binding on when payment will be made within the shortest possible time.”
It added that if the association fails to hear from government by Saturday, 20 May 2023, it will “declare our intention/ new action to be taken on 22 May 2023.
