18.7 million voters registered for Dec. 7 polls – EC
The Electoral Commission (EC) has released provisional figures showing that a total of 18,772,795 valid voters are expected to cast their ballots in the upcoming December general elections.
The data indicates that 9,690,173 of these voters are female, while 9,082,622 are male.
According to the statistics, 708,282 new voters have been added to the electoral roll for this year's elections.
The EC also reported that there are 332,110 transferred voters, 2,167 proxy voters, 32,974 individuals on the exceptions list, and 26,798 on the multiples list.
During an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held in Accra on Tuesday, October 1, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa provided an update on the voter register, assuring stakeholders that the Commission has largely resolved the errors found in the provisional list.
Mrs. Mensa acknowledged concerns raised by political parties and other stakeholders regarding the accuracy of the voter roll but emphasized that the register is still provisional and not yet finalised.
"These errors are not uncommon in any registration process," she said, assuring that the EC is taking steps to address them before the election.
The EC’s commitment to rectifying these issues aims to ensure the integrity of the electoral process as Ghana prepares for the December polls.
