2024 polls: Fully support our flagbearer even if he/she goes independent – NEC to party

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the People's National Party (PNP), after a meeting held on 25 August 2024 to deliberate on key resolutions regarding the Party's participation in the upcoming national elections, has resolved that whoever emerges as the flagbearer will have the full backing of the Party.
A statement dated Tuesday, 27 August 2024, and signed by General Secretary Suleman Seidu, said: “The NEC has resolved to throw the full weight of the Party behind the candidate elected to contest the upcoming national elections.”
It explained: “This support will be extended whether the candidate represents the People's National Party or, in the unlikely event that the final certification by the Electoral Commission is delayed, as an independent candidate.”
The Party, the statement added, “remains committed to ensuring that our chosen candidate receives the necessary support to win the election and advance our vision for the nation.”
Additionally, the NEC resolved that all aspiring candidates must submit their filing fees of GHS 100,000 via banker's draft in the name of the Party no later than Friday, 30 August 2024.
The Party explained that the “timely” submission of filing fees is “crucial to facilitating the electoral process and ensuring that our candidate complies with all necessary requirements.”
The Committee also noted that it will convene its final meeting on Sunday, 1 September 2024, to deliberate and decide on who its flagbearer will be for the upcoming elections.
“The selected candidate will be formally announced and will begin preparations for the electoral campaign with the full backing and support of the People's National Party. The NEC urges all members and stakeholders of the Party to remain committed to the collective goal of ensuring a successful and impactful election campaign.”
