2024Polls: Omane Boamah calls out EC over bias in favour of NPP
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has issued a call to action for the party to defend every parliamentary seat it has won in the just-ended 2024 elections.
In a strongly-worded statement shared on social media, Dr. Boamah criticized the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) and accused it of bias in favour of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He claimed that the EC's conduct throughout the election period raised serious concerns about its impartiality and competence.
"If the results had been close, this criminal and incompetent Electoral Commission would have stolen the verdict for the NPP," he alleged.
Dr. Boamah also raised questions about delays in finalizing the 2024 presidential and parliamentary election results, describing the situation as “sad and disconcerting.”
"When the NPP illegally instructs the Electoral Commission to jump, instead of asking why they must jump, they ask how high must we jump?" he remarked, highlighting what he sees as undue influence over the EC by the ruling party.
The former Minister of Communications expressed particular concern about the EC's decision to re-collate parliamentary results, questioning the rationale behind such a move.
"Why re-collate parliamentary results?" he asked, suggesting that the process could be a ploy to alter the outcomes in favour of the NPP.
Dr. Boamah also pointed to reports of ballot papers being stolen and reprinted ahead of the Special Voting day in the Eastern and Western regions, calling for answers to these alleged irregularities.
"Who stole the ballot paper(s) that led to the reprinting of the ballots for Eastern and Western regions in advance of Special Voting Day?
The answers will be out soon," he stated, hinting at forthcoming revelations.
In closing, Dr. Boamah urged NDC members and supporters to maintain vigilance over the electoral process, particularly the actions of the EC and the NPP.
"Still keep #EAGLEEYES on the Electoral Commission and the NPP," he wrote, emphasizing the need for the party to safeguard its electoral gains.
The statement reinforces the NDC's resolve to challenge any irregularities and ensure that its victories in the parliamentary elections are upheld.
