#2024Polls: Sorting, counting commence as voting closes
Ghana’s 2024 general elections officially came to a close at 5pm today, marking the end of a highly anticipated voting period.
However, the Electoral Commission (EC) announced that in areas where voting had started late, the polling stations would remain open for an extended period to ensure all eligible voters could cast their ballots.
As of 2pm, the EC reported that all polling stations across the country had recorded a voter turnout of over 50 per cent, indicating significant participation in the electoral process.
With voting now concluded, the focus shifts to the next crucial phase: sorting and counting. Election officials are beginning the process of tallying the votes to determine the outcome of what has been a highly contested election.
The results are expected to be announced in the coming days, as Ghanaians await the final verdict on their elected leaders.
