A/R: Samira’s convoy involved in accident; 3 in critical condition, 10 injured
Three persons are in critical condition while nine are injured after the wife of the Vice-President, Mrs Samira Bawumia’s convey was involved in an accident at the intersection between Anhwiakwanta and Ofoase Kokoben in the Ashanti region.
The incident occurred on Monday, 23 November 2020, at about 6 pm.
The convoy was returning from a rally at Dompoase when the incident occurred.
The injured include a Reverend Father and the driver of the bus in which members of the New Patriotic Party's loyal ladies who joined the Second Lady's campaign were travelling in.
One of the cars (Urvan) in the convoy carrying members of the NPP's loyal ladies with registration number GN 4096-20 crashed with a Toyota Hilux car with registration number AS4247-17 which was onboard Reverend Fathers.
Confirming the incident, the Bekwai MTTD commander, ASP Francis Yaw Ekoh, told Kumasi FM's Elisha Adarkwah that the second lady was returning from Fomena Dompease.
“So we all rushed there including the Divisional Commander and the MC. When we got there, we met three ambulances and we found out from them what happened.
“They said it was the second lady who was passing. She was returning from a rally at Dompoase so when they got there, this Reverend Father was ahead of them so he stopped, when he stopped he allowed all the convoy to pass.
“Having realised that there were some remaining behind, he wanted to branch to his place. The other car too was also at top speed and without due care hit the driver’s side of the Reverend Father’s car and they all went into the ditch,” ASP Ekoh narrated.
He noted that all 10 ladies in the car got injured and were taken to the Abenkyiman hospital where they were later referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for further treatment.
He indicated that three people are in critical condition including the Reverend Father and the driver of the vehicle.
