Abetifi NPP delegates raise concerns over delayed transport allowance
Some delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Abetifi Constituency of the Eastern Region have raised concerns over delays and, in some cases, the non-payment of transport allowances by coordinators aligned with former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The delegates, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the situation has caused dissatisfaction among a section of party members participating in the ongoing presidential primary.
According to them, assurances were given ahead of the voting exercise that transport arrangements or allowances would be provided to facilitate their movement to designated polling centres, but these commitments have not been fully honoured.
Some delegates complained that while others allegedly received their allowances, many are still waiting several hours after arriving at the voting centre, creating tension and uncertainty.
They noted that the delays have placed an unexpected financial burden on delegates who travelled from distant communities within the constituency.
The aggrieved delegates have called on the leadership of the Bawumia campaign in the area to urgently address the issue to prevent further discontent and to ensure a smooth and orderly electoral process.
Party observers at Abetifi cautioned that unresolved logistical challenges could negatively affect morale and participation, urging all campaign teams to treat delegates fairly and equitably in the spirit of unity and transparency.
The concerns come amid heightened attention on the conduct of the NPP’s presidential primary, with party leadership repeatedly calling on all stakeholders to uphold discipline, fairness and internal cohesion throughout the process.
