The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has called on the Member of Parliament (MP) for New Juaben South Constituency in the Eastern Region, Mr. Michael Okyere Baafi, to honour his public promise to resign from Parliament following the NDC’s victory in the Akwatia by-election.

According to Mr. Asiedu Nketia, the New Juaben South MP had earlier declared that he would step down from his parliamentary seat if the NDC emerged victorious in the Akwatia contest.

With the party’s recent success in that by-election, the NDC Chairman says it is now time for the MP to demonstrate integrity by keeping his word.

“Mr. Michael Okyere Baafi boldly said he would resign if the NDC won the Akwatia by-election.

The NDC has won, so what is he waiting for?

He should resign so that a by-election can be held in New Juaben South,” Asiedu Nketia stated.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia made these remarks during his “Thank You Tour” of the Eastern Region, where he addressed party members, traditional leaders, and residents in Koforidua.

In his address, the NDC Chairman also commended President John Dramani Mahama for his commitment to delivering on the party’s promises and urged members to remain united behind his leadership.

“We must not allow personal interests and internal disagreements to divide us,” he said.

“We will bring shame upon ourselves if we fail to fulfil our promises.

Fortunately, we have a good president who has already begun delivering on those promises.”

He emphasised that the NDC has made significant progress under President Mahama’s leadership and stressed that continued unity is essential for achieving the party’s full vision.

“What remains is for us to be united as a party and throw our weight behind him so he can complete the task,” he added.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia also warned against internal conflicts, noting that divisions could undermine the party’s performance and damage its public image.

“If we start fighting among ourselves simply because we didn’t get what we wanted, when things go wrong, all of us will be affected,” he cautioned.

Concluding his remarks, the NDC Chairman assured the chiefs, elders, and residents of New Juaben South that the NDC government, under President Mahama, remains committed to fulfilling its key campaign promises — including the 24-Hour Economy policy and other developmental initiatives.
