A Member of Parliament for Abetifi and former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has announced the formation of an exploratory committee to assess the viability of a potential presidential bid within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a heartfelt statement addressed to party faithful and Ghanaians, Dr. Acheampong said his decision follows “growing encouragement from a broad spectrum of party faithful” and “extensive consultation with family and well-wishers.”

The exploratory committee, which is expected to present its findings within four weeks, will engage key party stakeholders, grassroots members, and constituents to gauge alignment between Dr. Acheampong’s vision and the aspirations of both the NPP and the Ghanaian populace.

He noted that the party currently stands at a pivotal crossroads, one that demands “unity and a renewed commitment to core values.”

The committee’s mandate includes assessing how his leadership can respond to urgent national priorities such as job creation, food security, youth and infrastructure development, safety and security, and good governance.

Dr. Acheampong recounted his long-standing involvement in the NPP, describing his political journey as both “lifelong and deeply personal.

” From grassroots organising to serving as a party staffer, parliamentary aspirant, four-term MP, Minister of State, Cabinet Minister, and party financier, he said his diverse experience has deepened his loyalty to the party and its founding ideals.

“I have served the NPP faithfully, supported many, and helped shape impactful policies. Everything within me and every resource at my disposal have been put to the service of the party — and I will continue to serve,” he said.

To the party’s foot soldiers and supporters, Dr. Acheampong delivered a message of encouragement, expressing strong belief in the NPP’s ability to overcome its current challenges and once again lead Ghana towards a brighter future.

“May we remain steadfast in spirit and decorous in conduct in the pursuit of progress, inclusivity, and effective leadership for Ghana. May God be our helper,” he concluded.

Dr. Acheampong’s move signals a potential bid for leadership within the NPP ahead of the party’s internal contest to select a flagbearer for the 2028 presidential election.
