The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East in the Central Region, Miss Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, has spearheaded a major community-led dredging exercise on the Okrudu River in Kasoa, aimed at restoring its natural flow and reducing the risk of flooding.

The initiative, carried out in collaboration with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Seth Banini, the Municipal NADMO Coordinator, Nyash Adams, local authorities, and residents, focused on clearing silt, debris, and waste that had choked the riverbed.

According to Naa Koryoo Okunor, the project was a crucial step in protecting lives and property in Kasoa, a community often affected by floods during the rainy season.

“By working together, we are not only safeguarding homes and businesses but also improving water quality and reviving the ecosystem,” she noted.

The dredging exercise has already delivered multiple benefits:

Reduced flood risk, shielding homes, shops, and livelihoods.

Improved water quality, making the river safer for irrigation and other uses.

Revived biodiversity, supporting local wildlife and restoring ecological balance.

Residents expressed appreciation for the project, describing it as a timely intervention to address perennial flooding and environmental challenges in the area.
