Come to Nzema, meet Nananom, Nkrumah’s family and apologise – Nkroful chief to Napo

Nana Kwasi Kutuah, Chief of Nkroful, along with the Nzema Manle, has summoned Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, running mate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), to Nkroful to issue an unreserved apology to the kinsmen of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
This follows Dr. Prempeh's controversial remarks about Nkrumah during his unveiling in Kumasi.
Despite issuing a public apology after referring to Dr. Nkrumah as “Your Kwame Nkrumah,” Dr. Prempeh, also known as NAPO, has been criticised by the Chief of Nkroful and the Nzema Manle for not fully acknowledging the insult in his statement.
At a press conference on Sunday, 14 July 2024, in Nkroful, Nana Kwasi Kutuah insisted that NAPO’s apology was insufficient and defensive, demanding a personal visit to Nkroful for forgiveness.
“His comments where he alluded to using the phrase in our local Twi parlance as ‘Mo Kwame Nkrumah Nu’ meaning ‘Your Kwame Nkrumah’ smacks of gross disrespect against Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and we condemn it with all alacrity. Dr. Prempeh’s comments are an affront to our democracy and have the potential to derail the peace and unity of the country,” Nana Kwasi Kutuah declared.
He continued: “It is intriguing to note that his posture of not admitting to insulting Nkrumah in his release is not enough and we call on him to come again, since his claim is deemed hollow. Our attention has been drawn to various media publications that Dr. Prempeh has rendered an apology to Nkrumah and other past Presidents of Ghana.
“We, therefore, demand Dr. Prempeh come to Nzema to meet Nananom and the family of Dr. Nkrumah at Nkroful to render an unreserved apology to the kinsmen of the revered icon.”
Surrounded by the Chiefs and people of Nzema, Nana Kwasi Kutuah further warned politicians against undermining Dr. Nkrumah's legacy, promising a strong response from the Nzemas.
“We the Chiefs, people of Nkroful, Nzema, and Western Region want to tell the world that we cherish the achievements of Dr. Nkrumah and will not allow anyone or group to bring the hard-won reputation of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah into disrepute. We would like to admonish all political actors and their followers to desist from denigrating the image of the ‘African of the Millennium’ whom the world has accepted as a global icon. In conclusion, we would like to entreat all political actors and their followers to advocate messages that will unite, foster peace, and develop our motherland, Ghana,” he added.
