DLE:EC yet to account for 28 BRVs
The Electoral Commission (EC) is facing scrutiny over the unaccounted for Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) used in the previous District Level Elections (DLE) held across the country.
In response to the issue, the EC has instructed its Regional Directors to submit all BVDs utilized during the 2023 District Level Elections to the Head Office.
A memorandum dated March 7, 2024, signed by Mr. Samuel Tettey, the Deputy Chairman in Charge of Operations, and addressed to the Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of Corporate Services, outlined the directive with the subject: "Return of Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs)."
The memo highlights shortages in BVD quantities retrieved from several regions, including Greater Accra, Eastern, Central, Upper East, Savanna, Northern, North East, Western, and Volta.
Specifically, the outstanding BVDs per region are as follows: Greater Accra - one, Eastern - one, Western North - two, Western - five, Central - one, Volta - two, Upper East - three, Savanna - two, Northern - nine, and North East - two totalling twenty-8.
The Commission has instructed the affected regions to organize and return the outstanding BVDs to the Procurement Inventory and Management Unit at the head office for further action.
Meanwhile, the NDC has raised concerns about some seven EC's Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) being stolen but the Electoral Commission has clarified that it is five of its laptops that have been stolen
