Dec. 7 polls: We’ll waive filing fees for women and PWDs by 25% – Jean Mensa

The Electoral Commission has announced the filing fees for both presidential and parliamentary candidates in the upcoming December 7 polls.
Briefing Parliament on preparations made so far, for the upcoming polls, the EC chair Jean Mensa disclosed the filing fees for presidential candidates is set at GHS100,000, and for parliamentary candidates, at GHS10,000.
According to the EC, in a move to encourage greater participation, particularly from underrepresented groups, the Commission, will waive 25 per cent of the filing fees for women and Persons With Disabilities(PWDs).
Meanwhile, the EC has said, that no new Constitutional Instrument (C.I.) will be laid before Parliament before the polls.
Additionally, the proposal to shift the election date to November has been deferred to 2028, ensuring the Saturday, 7 December 2024, date remains unchanged.
To enhance the integrity of the voting process, the EC chair confirmed the use of indelible ink for the upcoming elections.
